Event Response Political Science Webinar 10/26/21

So I had to attend this event for my intro to American government class and as you can see I attended it over a month ago; so I am going to try my best to remember what went down in the webinar. The webinar had two speakers who were both former congress members Greg Walden and Lynn Shenk. Greg Walden represented the 2nd district of Oregon from 1999 to 2021. Lynn Shenk represented San Diego in the house from 1993 to 1995.

Obviously Shenk did not serve for that long but the one thing that I remember her talking about was when she decided to run for congress. I remember her saying that she just decided to run one day and her husband was just like “are you crazy”. she also talked about when she first started representing there were not a lot of women in congress and if she had to go to the bathroom she had to walk a pretty long way to get to the nearest woman bathroom.

Walden represented Oregon as a republican but I found myself agreeing with a lot of what he said even though I view myself as a democrat. I do not recall everything he talked about but remember him being a pretty friendly and chill guy. He did talk about the AIDS epidemic and how he created policies and actions that were bipartisan.
